A real hill climb.
A virtual adventure.
A live mixed-reality world premiere for the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX at Berlin Tempelhof.
The screen is a road, the road is a screen.
Inside a hangar at Berlin Tempelhof, the all-electric ID.4 GTX climbed a 37.5% incline. The 525 m² ramp was both stage and projection surface: a physical obstacle transformed into the terrain of the story.
This made the vehicle’s real climbing performance the centre of the show — not an image added in post.
One perspective. Many worlds.
Twelve Full-HD projectors turned the ramp into city streets, mountain passes and open terrain. From the broadcast camera, perspective-correct imagery opened the stage into a continuous virtual landscape.
Physical movement and virtual scenery became a single composition, changing worlds without interrupting the climb.
The world stayed locked to the car.
With a fixed film, the illusion would break whenever the driver varied speed or position - or the cameras point of view changed. So the environments ran in real time in a game engine.
Thirty-two infrared cameras tracked the vehicle and adjusted the projected world continuously. Car, incline and camera remained aligned throughout the climb.
The product promise became the plot.
Every environment was viewed from above. The perspective translated the GTX’s climbing ability into the visual logic of the show.
The result was a tightly choreographed mixed-reality premiere in which product performance and narrative became the same action.
